KATE RUSBY presented by FOLK UNDER THE CLOCK
Friday March 12th, 2010
8PM at SHOWPLACE
All Tickets $35
Kate Rusby is recognized as England’s preeminent traditional folksinger. The Guardian described her as a “Superstar of the British acoustic scene.” The BBC described her as “The first lady of young folkies” and has handed her FOUR BBC FOLK MUSIC AWARDS. She is also one of the few folk artists to be nominated for the prestigious MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE.
Kate is 33 and grew up and still lives in South Yorkshire and toyed with acting before embarking on her well-documented rise to the nearest folk gets to superstar status.
Music became embedded in her soul as she and her siblings, Joe and Emma, were carted around the folk festivals, where mum and dad, Steve and Ann, would be playing in their ceilidh band or dad would be looking after sound systems.
Her latest album is Awkward Annie and Helen Brown wrote in the Daily Telegraph: “Listening to Kate Rusby’s lovely new album, it occurred to me that she’s England’s answer to Dolly Parton. Not in terms of the wigs and sequins, but in her quaveringly sincere ability to tell a simple, downhome story in a song and make your heart ache for it”. Dolly Parton, as it happens, is one of her greatest musical influences.
It’s taken many years to book Kate and for her to tour North America….you are in for one rare and special treat!
